Happy New Year! With last month’s temperatures being so warm it was hard to believe we were in Northern Virginia. Despite the rain and 60 degree temperatures however, our holiday season was very busy with family, friends and guests gathering to celebrate not only the holidays but weddings, reunions and relaxing family time. Now, as we slowly take down the decorations and the temperatures have turned back to winter like we must look ahead to the excitement and possibilities a new year brings.
If you would like to try something different this year or just want to be outside to enjoy all Mother Nature has to offer, you might want to check out the Motts Run Nature Center. One thing that caught our attention was an upcoming night hike on Friday, January 22, 7-8:15 pm. Hikers are reminded to dress warmly, have shoes with good traction and most importantly bring a flashlight. For more information or to make a reservation you can call 540-372-1086 ext. 213 or visit http://www.fredericksburgva.gov/parksandrec.
Now, if you would rather have something indoor then you must check out the University of Mary Washington’s upcoming lecture series “Great Lives”. This lecture series is free and open to the public on Tuesday and Thursday’s beginning January 14th at 7:30 p.m. on the campus of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg at George Washington Hall’s Dodd Auditorium. The series will cover the lives of such people as Jack London, Bob Hope, Ethel Payne, Secretariat, and President’s Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and Eisenhower plus many more. One more idea to get your New Year going—How about enjoying a show at the Riverside Dinner Theater? “Mame” is playing through January 17th with Sally Struthers and opening January 23rd is “Buddy, The Buddy Holly Story”. If you would like tickets and information visit http://RiversideDT.com or call 540-370-4300.
