Time to enjoy Spring!!!

April Showers bring May Flowers and the beauty of spring!! Forget the snow they have gotten out west and the thunderstorms down south, we have got a great forecast in Fredericksburg and it is all about sunshine and perfect temperatures. If you are looking for something to do indoor or out then let’s begin with smelling the flowers and a few places one can visit to enjoy the blooms of spring.
Gari Melchers Home and Studio: The formal gardens have been restored to their original beauty the way Mrs. Melcher would have had them in the 1920’s. What better way to enjoy the flowers, shrubs and blossoming trees than by surrounding oneself with the tranquility that is the Melcher home and art studio. The acreage framing the home is beautifully maintained and is the perfect place to enjoy a walk and a little slice of heaven on a warm spring day. Located at 224 Washington Street, call 540-654-1015 or visit garimelchers.umw.edu for more information.
Two gardens and homes that are happily situated in close proximity to each other are the Mary Washington House and St. James House; located respectfully at 1200 and 1300 Charles St. in Old Town. Open houses, garden activities and art tours are running all month long. To visit these historic sites call 540-373-5630 or visit washingtonheritagemuseums.org for more information.
So what else is there to do on a visit to Fredericksburg in the spring? Hmmmm….. The comfortable temperatures offer many other activities to enjoy. We have a brand new paved trail that provides the quiet sounds of the rushing Rappahannock River and its inhabitants that traverses clear into Old Town Fredericksburg. It’s perfect for a walk, jog or bike ride (you bring the bikes) and depending on the route you chose there are plenty of wonderful places to stop and enjoy a light lunch or casual afternoon ice tea while just relaxing.
Weekends also bring our Farmers Markets to life; seasonal plants, baked goods and local produce grown right here are just waiting to entice the senses with smells and tastes to both enjoy now and for the ride home.
If you are not too tired after all that fresh air… the evening brings even more things to enjoy. Many of the restaurants in Old Town Fredericksburg have delightful outdoor seating to enjoy a meal or your favorite cocktail, wine or drink of choice. For recommendations just ask and we will be happy to share our secret bests with you. : )
Our spring blog would be more like a book if we told you everything there is to see and enjoy during your stay in our lovely home town, but we would rather you come and see for yourself. Make sure you bring your camera, walking shoes and curiosity for a new adventure. We are positive that you will be delighted and you won’t want to wait to long before coming back to see what all the other seasons have to offer.
